The Mall
THE MALL by Suzanne Pullen
Sitting at the Reflecting Pool
hot wind
hotter sun
carrying a legacy that does not belong to me
but brings my mother's tears to my throat.
She was here over 25 years ago
peace on her mind
me on her back.
Did she know where her reflections would lead?
Visiting the Belmont/Sewall House
taking pictures
buying souvenirs to bring back
to another woman who was here
the same time my mother was.
Coming from different worlds
-- never meeting with their common beliefs.
I visit these places with the weight of their stories
keeping company with the height of my respect.
